Should You Install Ceramic Coatings to Your Car?

What is Ceramic Coating?

Ceramic Coating is a specialized clear coating material designed to offer an additional layer of protection over your vehicle's existing surface. This coating is chemically designed to increase hardness and durability. At the molecular level, the ceramic coating forms a chemical bond with your vehicle's factory paint, providing long-term, durable protection that won't simply wash off under severe conditions. This chemical bond also has hydrophobic properties meaning it actually repels water and contaminants, making it a self-cleaning surface. Water will simply bead up and roll off your coated surfaces, taking dirt and grime along with it. These properties are beneficial across all of the surfaces of your vehicle including the windshield improving your visibility in heavy rain.

Unlike some other protective solutions, the application method for ceramic coatings matters. It requires meticulous, hand-applied techniques to ensure that every square inch of your vehicle is treated. This level of detailed application generally comes after a process known as "paint correction," which remedies any surface imperfections including scratches in the paintwork to provide a pristine surface for the coating to adhere to.

One of the obvious benefits of ceramic coatings is its ability to significantly enhance the look and texture of your vehicle's paint job. Your vehicle will shine as if it's brand new, thanks to the coating's enhanced gloss and color depth features.

Damages to Your Paint Surface

Rain can be a refreshing break from a punishing heatwave. However rainfall can bring a potential hazard to your vehicle's paintwork beyond water spots. Rain can carry certain elemental materials that if left to dry on a car can cause paint damage over time, otherwise known as acid rain. When it falls on a vehicle surface, the moisture can evaporate, but the acidity stays, which causes paint (and metal) to weaken over time. The damaging effects of acid rain can look like white mineral build-up on a vehicle's paint. Like when you forget to use a drink coaster on a wooden coffee table, and it leaves an unsightly water ring stain.

Other environmental pollutants like bugs and bird droppings can erode the protective layers of the paint, causing the surface to become rough and pitted. Over time, repeated exposure to acid rain can lead to progressive paint damage. The cumulative effect of these interactions can result in more pronounced paint etching and a compromised paint finish.

Hydrophobic Properties

Ceramic coating comes with hydrophobic properties that repel water and contaminants, making it a self-cleaning surface. These properties are especially beneficial for your windshield, improving visibility during heavy rain and making it easier to clean. You'll find that maintaining your car becomes a breeze.

Enhancing your Vehicle's Look

One of the immediate benefits of ceramic coating is its ability to significantly enhance the look and texture of your vehicle's paint surface. Your vehicle will have a liquid shine that just is unmatched by other cleaning methods.
