Some 2023 GMC Sierra HD units will be produced without the Front and Rear Park Assist feature once production at the GM Flint plant in Michigan gets under way this year. While some electronic features have returned to GM vehicles in recent weeks, the automaker is still grappling with a shortage of microchips, leading it to remove some features from certain vehicles.
The Front and Rear Park feature is included and only available with the (PQA) 1SA Driver Alert Package on the base-level Pro trim for the 2023 GMC Sierra HD. On the SLE, SLT and AT4 trim levels, the feature is normally included and only available with the (PQB) Driver Alert Package I. This feature is standard on the Denali trim level. All GMC Sierra HD trim levels will be affected by this temporary feature deletion.
The light-duty 2023 GMC Sierra 1500 is facing a similar situation, as well, with Rear Park Assist (RPO code UD7) and Front and Rear Park Assist (RPO code UD5) also set to be under constraint on that model from launch.
Production of the 2023 GMC Sierra HD will kick off at the GM Flint plant on July 18th, 2022. The order books for the 2023 Sierra HD opened up on May 5th, 2022.
The 2023 GMC Sierra HD will precede a model refresh set to launch for the 2024 model year, rather than the 2023 model year as originally expected. The delay is the result of various setbacks stemming from the COVID-19 pandemic, which has pushed back the timetable for several GM vehicle programs. That means the 2023 GMC Sierra HD will introduce only minor changes prior to more significant changes slated to arrive for the subsequent 2024 model year.
